RadioShack Helps Safeguard a Precious Asset

Through our network of over 6,000 neighborhood stores, RadioShack is uniquely positioned to help maintain a constant watch on our children’s safety.

In addition to our support for the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, RadioShack provides free child identification kits to volunteer groups and individuals. The kit includes a place for a digital photo and fingerprints of the child, as well as a place for parents to record personal, physical and medical information about their children, which they take home for safekeeping. Each kit also provides general parental tips to keep children safer and information on what to do if your child is missing. If you are interested in receiving Child ID kits for a future event or even for you own child, please e-mail us at Community.Relations@RadioShack.com.

Wireless AMBER Alerts

How to sign up online:

How to subscribe from a wireless handset:

  • Send to short code 26237 (AMBER) and enter any of the following key words followed by a space:
    • AMBER or amber
    • SUBSCRIBE or subscribe
  • Enter up to five ZIP Codes (separated by commas or spaces) for which you would like to receive a Wireless AMBER Alert. If you enter more than five, only the first five will be accepted.
  • Upon completion, you will receive a short confirmation message that includes a random password assigned to you. Use this password the first time you log on to www.wirelessamberalerts.org.

Example: “AMBER: Enrolled for AMBER Alerts. Password: 1234. ZIP Codes: 33602, 33595, 33606, 33511, 33597. To Stop: Send to 26237, keyword STOP. More info: keyword HELP”

That’s it, and because the service is so geographically specific, you should receive no more than four or five alerts each year.

The Wireless AMBER Alerts service – a partnership between the wireless industry, law-enforcement agencies, and the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) – sends a text message to the subscriber’s wireless device when a missing-child alert is distributed. In missing-child cases, getting information out fast is a key to recovering the child safely.

You can sign up online or from your wireless handset. The instructions are in the box. If you need assistance with signing up, it's as close as your nearest RadioShack store.

ADAM Missing Child Fax Poster Program

RadioShack stores nationwide participate in the ADAM missing child fax poster program. This makes RadioShack the largest single-source distributor of ADAM fax posters in the country.

In cooperation with NCMEC, each RadioShack store receives faxes of high-risk missing children from their area and places them on prominent display in the window or at the checkout register in an effort to reach every customer.

ADAM – named in honor of Adam Walsh, whose kidnapping and murder brought the horror of child abduction to national attention – is designed to increase the chances of safely recovering missing children.
